... Ziya from Tanzania. When you look at her paintings and read her bio you might expect to meet a six foot rasta mama wearing a dashiki and turban. Yes, Ziya was born in Tanzania, but she looks all American gymnast and could just as easily claim post communist China, the very free Virgin Islands, or now lush Kauai as her home. She talks a bit funny, having one of those mixed up accents from traveling and speaking so many damn languages.  Her art is a hybrid of crazy quilts/paintings and they are just as wild and vibrant as she is. Her favorite canvas to paint on are vintage Dhow sails from Zanzibar.
